welcome
Thank you for visiting my site. I hope the information that you read here is both informative and helpful to you, but most of all I hope it inspires you to get involved to find cure for this deadly disease. Did you know that there are 20.8 million children and adults in the United States, or 7% of the population, who have diabetes? While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, 6.2 million people (or nearly one-third) are unaware that they have the disease.
Some 194 million people worldwide have diabetes. It is now one of the most common non-communicable diseases globally. Diabetes is the fourth or fifth leading cause of death in most developed countries and there is substantial evidence that it is an epidemic in many developing and newly industrialized nations.
You can help make a difference by supporting the fight against diabetes. There are many ways to get involved. Monetary donations are only one component of the things you can do to help find a cure. Check out our resources links for more ways you can get involved and support this cause.
mission
My mission is to get as many people involved to support the cause to find a cure for diabetes. Whether it is as a diabetes advocate, lobbying our government to pass legislation to fund diabetes research, a volunteer helping out at diabetes awareness and fund raising events in your community, getting involved in one of the many fun events which help raise funds needed to wipe out diabetes such as the ADA's Tour de Cure and America's Walk for Diabetes, there are so many ways you can make a difference in the lives of people affected by diabetes. Just get out there, get involved , join me, and many diabetes advocates and volunteers around the world and help raise awareness about the fight against diabetes. Our common goal can only be reached through your involvement. Insidediabetes.com has links to many invaluable resources, such as the American Diabetes Association and other organizations that are tirelessly working every day to make our common mission of finding a cure a reality. about
My name is Liz Eddy and diabetes has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My maternal grandmother had diabetes and died of pancreatic cancer in 1972. My mother is a type 2 diabetic as is my my uncle, my mother's baby brother. My mother's other brother (she only has 2) was a type 1 diabetic, who was diagnosed when he was 14 years old . He was very active, ran his own catering company as well as worked full time for the sheriff's department as the supervisor in charge of booking at the county jails. He was placed on dialysis in 1995 and died from a heart attack in 2003 at the age of 46, all complication of diabetes. This was devastating to my entire family. My uncle was one of my best friends. I miss him. He helped me through my first time diabetes took someone precious from me. In 1998 my husband and I lost our daughter, Marissa, to complications from diabetes. This is something that I will never get over. It still hurts just as much as it did when she first passed away. I decided not to let her death be in vain and I vowed to get involved to help find a cure and to gather as many people to do the same so that no one ever has to know what it is like to lose someone they love from this disease. I am a national advocate for the American Diabetes Association and a volunteer attorney with the American Diabetes Association's Advocacy Attorney Network which provides effective legal counsel for people who face diabetes related discrimination. Every 21 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes. That means it's only a matter of time until you or someone you love is affected by diabetes. Get involved today. Together we can win our fight to improve access to quality care for all people affected by diabetes, eliminate discrimination against people because of their diabetes, ensure the federal government is adequately funding diabetes research and programs, and find a cure.
